QAZpad Build Guide

QAZpad

Info

Case for all versions of the QAZpad PCB/Keyboard by KiserDesigns

More information at the QAZpad project page.

BOM

Qty Part
1x PCB + Plate assembled with switches
1x Case, consisting of bottom and top part
8x Selfadhesive Gaskets
8x Ballsprings for the case
4x Selfadhesive feet, 6mm
0-3x Encoder and knob (optional)

Dissassembly if necessary

The QAZpad is normally an FR4-Keyboard using a plate as a base with standoffs. For this case the bottom-plate is not needed. Only the PCB and the switch-plate is used. You only need to remove the bottom plate and standoffs. No need to desolder anything.

Assembly

PCB-Soldering

If you havent assembled the PCB/Keyboard yet, now is the time. Put the stabilisers, switches and (optional) encoder in the PCB and solder everything. A guide for soldering switches and general soldering advice can be found at the Docs of Keeb.supply

Gaskets

Gaskets

First stick the gaskets on the QAZpad switch-plate like in the picture above, at the red lines. On both sides of the plate.

Feet

feet Put the feet on the bottom case in the recessed circles.

Ballsprings

Ballspring insertion

Push all 8 ballsprings in the designated holes in the bottom part of the case. If it it hard to push them in by hand, use a screw driver with the flat top of a big hex bit.

Final assembly

That is already nearly it. Now just put the PCB-Assembly on the bottom part of the case, make sure to position it in the center of the case. Then just push the top part of the case over it until the ballsprings click into place.

Push the knob on the encoder(s).

Firmware

The PCB should come pre-flashed with a VIAL-Firmware, but if you want to edit it, here are the links: QMK/VIAL Sourcecode

The possible layouts are detailed in this KLE.
